1985: Xavier Suarez is sworn in as Miami, Florida's first Cuban-born mayor. He is sworn in by Florida’s last living non-Cuban resident.


2000: Philippine House Speaker Manuel B. Villar, Jr. passes the articles of impeachment against President Joseph Estrada, and replaces him with Eric Estrada.


2001: President George W. Bush signs an executive order allowing military tribunals against foreigners suspected of terrorist acts, aiding terrorist acts, or reading the New York Times.
