1043: Edward the Confessor is crowned King of England… beating out a challenge from his brother, William the Tattle Tale.


1895: Oscar Wilde goes on trial for being a homosexual, a scene they recreate in Iran every day.


1948: President Harry S. Truman signs the Marshall Plan, authorizing $5 billion in aid for 16 countries… which was $2 billion after taxes, shipping and handling.
